CEREC, CAD/CAM, and Same-Day Crowns
A dental crown being placed on a front tooth, highlighting the precise fit and restoration process. At Oral Surgery Specialists of Buda we always try to keep up with the latest technology, and we are happy we can offer CEREC crowns to our patients. Also known as same-day crowns, these crowns are quicker and more convenient than traditional crowns.

One of the biggest factors that separate CEREC crowns from traditional crowns is the time it takes to do the procedure. While you may wait for more than two weeks to get traditional crowns, you can get CEREC crowns in only one visit - from start to finish. By using the latest CAD/CAM technology, we can provide the best quality crowns in almost no time.

How the Procedure Works

The CEREC procedure is usually done in less than two hours. Rather than taking a bite mold like in traditional treatment, we will digitally scan the tooth we are to treat. This can be very helpful for patients who have had to have a deep cleaning to remove decayed material. Their teeth may be sensitive, and it may be uncomfortable to make an impression.

We then upload that scan into our 3D software, which will mold the crown using a block of ceramic. This quick and innovative process means it takes less time and the results that are more precise. After that we place the processed crown onto the tooth to ensure the fit is perfect and to your liking. We will then glaze it, and make small adjustments where necessary. After that, we will bond the crown to your tooth and apply a final polish that will strengthen it and make it aesthetically appealing. The crown is now permanent, and you do not have to book a second visit.

Benefits of the CEREC Crown

CEREC crowns are most likely the best solution for your damaged and discolored tooth. Besides being timesaving, they also provide more comfort. There is no need to wear temporary crowns, so you will not have to deal with pain, increased sensitivity, and other potential discomfort. Since CEREC crowns are made only with porcelain and are digitally printed, they also tend to look better than traditional crowns that usually use a certain amount of metal. Finally, they are long-lasting, remaining unchanged for as long as 15 to 40 years.

Do, however note that CEREC crowns are not for everyone. We sometimes still recommend traditional crowns to some of our patients. Since they are printed using a block of ceramic, the color may not match your natural tooth exactly. Therefore, if your crown is in a visible spot, traditional crowns could be a better option. Regular crowns are also a better fit if your tooth damage is below the gums since CEREC scans are not able to capture that area as accurately.

CEREC is a fast and long-lasting solution for damaged, discolored, or missing teeth. Book a consultation with our team of experts, and we will examine your tooth to see if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure.
